DOULA SUPPORT

Championing you, your choice and your voice in birth and postpartum.

WHY MIGHT YOU WANT A DOULA?

Giving birth is the most natural, primal thing you can do - your  body should just know what to do - right?

In theory (and in most cases), yes, if we were to just hide away in a dark corner like a tigress finding a secluded spot in the jungle to do her thing.

In reality, modern life – bright lights, beeping machines, blinding screens can block self-awareness, taking us further away from ourselves, our needs and our inner power (in life, not just pregnancy).

But when you tune in - you know what you need.

A doula [doo-lah] is there to help you tune back into you. By advocating for you and your needs, you can focus on getting into the birthing zone (caesareans included) without worrying about anything, or anyone else.

It takes a village

The word 'doula' is a Western term for what indigenous people and village communities have always done—women coming together to care for mothers and families.
It’s time to bring that back.

Doula SERVICES

Doulas are birth companions – with the skills to provide practical, physical, emotional and spiritual guidance to birthing bodies and minds.
I can support you through three stages:

BEFORE birth (antenatal)

Preparation, planning, partner workshops and movement using yoga and meditation to cultivate and create space for self-awareness

During birth (labour)

Presence at your birth to help create the space you need to just focus on you

After birth (postpartum)

Practical and emotional support in your home so you can concentrate on getting to know your baby and body post-birth.

A Doula Is Not:

A Doula Is:

  • A midwife, and does not replace a midwife
  • A space and energy facilitator/protector
  • A replacement of your birth partner
  • There to support you and your birth partner
  • A decision maker
  • There to protect your decisions
  • The authority in the room
  • There to advocate your authority, voice and choice
  • A baby sitter
  • There to 'mother the mother'
  • Feel more prepared and informed to meet your baby.
